A while ago, I had a crush on this Brazilian guy, And when I get a crush, I absolutely throw myself into that person’s worl, I orbit the things that make them them, one of them being their culture. I was already such a big fan of Brazilian music and movies, but I saw this show Dom on Amazon and was absolutely blown away. The story follows a young drug addict who is addicted to feeding into this life that is portrayed often in the favelas, all while having an insatiable hunger to feed his drug addiction no matter The circumstance. To do so, he robbed rich people, sold drugs, sold his families belongings, etc etc. But the twist is, his father, is a retired cop, and faces his own addictions that weren’t brought up until he looked at the way he possibly could’ve influenced his son. This show brings up a good read to father and son dynamics, while also humanizing the father (although he is a cop).
Also super random but: The father, who had a privileged upbringing, Was sent on a mission while working for the police force and encountered a Brazilian witch who would warn him of his future if he did not obey her rules.
Dom, Who is his own antagonist in the story, Finds true solace in love with the gang leaders girlfriend. It plays into the tale of Romeo and Juliet but with a modern Brazilian twist. I was on the edge of my seat every episode, and I found out is based on the true story about this iconic drug addict and druglord who is constantly doing these infamous raids on mansions around Brazil.
